About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover design  Structure of Novamyl, showing the position of the bound carbohydrate (cyan), relative to the five residue loop, at positions 191^195 (purple). To convert Novamyl to a cycodextrin producing enzyme, the loop was deleted and two further mutations made.

The structure was solved in York by Zbigniew Dauter etal., in Biochemistry, 38, 8385^8392, 1999. X-ray structure of Novamyl, the five-domain `maltogenic' alpha-amylase, is from Bacillus stearothermophilus. Maltose and acarbose complexes at 1.7 Ø resolution. For further details see Beier et al., pages 509513.
