About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover design  A cartoon of the signal sequence of a protein and how it is cleaved by signal peptidase. An amino acid in the signal sequence is colored blue, while that in the mature protein is magenta. The cleavage site is at position Ö1, +1. During the cleaving process, a correct fit is required between residues at subsites Ö3, Ö1, and +1 of the secretory protein and their counterparts in the enzyme. From this analysis, the Ö3, Ö1, +1 coupling was established for predicting protein signal peptides. For further details, see Figure 1, Chou., pages 75-79
