Schematic representation of the human α-2B-adrenergic receptor, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. Analysis with FoldIndex, a program for prediction of unstructured regions within a protein sequence, suggests that GPCR extramembranous domains include long disordered segments, unlike membrane proteins of known structure. The predicted disorder occurred primarily in the N-terminal, C-terminal and third intracellular domain (coloured by the purple single-letter code). The seven α-helical transmembrane segments are connected by three extracellular and three intracellular domains. The N-terminus is present on the extracellular side, whereas the C-terminus is present on the intracellular side. For further details, see Jaakola et al., pages 103–110.
