Results from the 
-value analysis of the transition state ensemble (TSE) for folding of ubiquitin showing a highly polarized transition state. Those residues with high -values (0.7–1.0) are shown in red and orange, medium values (0.5–0.6) in light and dark pink, medium/low values (0.3–0.4) in light and dark purple, and those with low values are shown in blue (0–0.3). Residues in the α-helix and first β-hairpin show the highest values, the α-helix being largely formed in the TSE, whilst the C-terminal region of ubiquitin is largely unstructured.
